The 5th and 6th of December last was held in Naples, the first National Congress Ishaws on the Surgery of the Abdominal Wall and abdominal Complex: Innovation & New Trends in Abdominal Wall Surgery. In the beautiful location of the Hotel Excelsior on the seafront of Naples, met the 288 participants registered at the desk of the inscriptions, and an international faculty, and attended by most of the surgeons in the world have given to it, in the recent times, a substantial boost, and a decisive advance in the surgery of the abdominal wall.

It was one of the last Congress, we were able to play in a traditional manner, in Italy and in the world, before the lockdown due to the pandemic of the Coronavirus.

The great success of the Congress, demonstrated the enormous interest in the surgery of the abdominal wall, which occurs regularly in the congresses multi specialty, where our classrooms are more crowded.

We are the member of the scientific content of the highest level, ranging between various topics, such as the ERAS, the economic aspects, the techniques for diastasis, robotics, the abdomens of complex, chronic pain, hernias parastomali, prevention.

Among the Italians participated in virtually all of the surgeons specifically dedicated to the abdominal wall, and some that, while engaging with other disciplines, such as colo-rectal, and biliary-pancreatic, you are affecting the reconstructive techniques of repair parietal, for the overlap of the issues and the involvement and the sequelae of the wall that may affect the patients undergoing these types of surgery.

We have had between the foreign speakers some of the most prominent surgeons in the world-famous, among them Yuri Novitsky, and the creator of some of the techniques used throughout the world, Miguel Angel Garcia Urena, Pasquale Giordano, Praminthra Chitsabesan, Dieter Berger, and Frederick Berrevoet. The presidents of the most important Scientific Societies surgical Italian (Paolo De Paolis for the SIC, Pierluigi Marine for the Acoi and Ferdinando Agresta for the Sice). And’ that took place between the speakers was the Director General of the Ministry of Health Dr. ssa Marcella Marletta.

It is a success that I would like to share with the entire Board of the Ishaws, and with all of you, always interested in new techniques and technologies, and to improve our everyday lives, surgical, and as demonstrated, always attentive to the news and to the improvement of outcomes for our patients.

They were assigned to two Under 40 prizes for Best Video and Best Clinical Research Work, judged by 2 Commissions. The winners have been awarded with the participation in the next Congress EHS (registration, travel and hotel for the duration of the Congress, it had to be Barcelona 2020, which, as is known, has been cancelled, and so it will be Copenhagen 2021)

The enthusiastic feedback received and the comments are very positive on the scientific content of the Congress and on the organizational aspects, we hope they can serve as a driving force for planning successful events like this, as soon as the conditions and organizational health will return to normal.
